A former Rohnert Park police officer is scheduled to go on trial in San Francisco in September. Joseph Huffaker is charged in a federal extortion case connected with a former sergeant who was convicted more than two years ago. Jury selection is scheduled to begin on September 12th, with the trial starting on September 16th. Huffaker worked for the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety between 2012 and 2019. In 2021, he was indicted on federal charges of conspiracy to commit extortion and extortion under color of law. Prosecutors say he illegally seized cannabis from drivers during traffic stops, then falsified records to cover it up.
