An award winning chef from Guerneville has died of a heart attack. The Press Democrat reports that Stephen Simmons passed away on March 28th at the age of 65. Simmons, originally from Boston, gained fame in the late 1980’s when he was named a Rising Star chef by the James Beard Foundation. He served as opening chef for San Francisco restaurant One Market and the Lark Creek Inn in Larkspur. He also opened two restaurants in San Anselmo and worked as a private chef and director of food operations at George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch in Marin County. A GoFundMe page has been started to help support his three children and the family has asked people to donate to the Food for Thought Food Bank in his memory.
