Comedian Dave Chappelle performed the first of four sold out shows at Santa Rosa’s Luther Burbank Center for the Arts. There were no protests or interruptions inside the venue on Tuesday night. Chappelle’s performances have been surrounded by controversy since comments he made about transgender people in last year’s Netflix special ‘The Closer.’ He joked at the beginning of last night’s show, telling the crowd “I get it, you don’t like the special.” At the end of the performance, he said “If you ever see a trans person in trouble, help them. Tell them Dave said, ‘Hello.'” Chappelle has two more stand-up comedy shows at the Luther Burbank Center tonight, and another one tomorrow night.

Orlando O’Shea of TransLife spoke with KSRO’s the Drive about his concerns with Dave Chappelle and the Luther Burbank Center presenting the comedian.
