Erosion is starting to pose a threat to California’s coastal cities. Santa Cruz Sustainability and Climate Action Manager TIffany Wise-West says for decades the city has used boulders to uphold their slice of the coast.
CalTrans is awarding Santa Cruz a 340-thousand dollar grant to help evaluate the impacts of erosion. Officials say rising sea levels due to climate change are wearing away at cliffs that hold up roads and prevent flooding. State agencies are trying to find long term solutions, before tides get even higher.
