Janiele Maffei with the California Earthquake Authority said the Earthquake Brace-Bolt Program provides homeowners up to three-thousand-dollars in grants.
That money can be used to brace cripple walls and bolt a house to its foundation, making the house more resistant to earthquake damage. Houses that qualify for a grant typically are pre-1979 construction, have a raised concrete foundation and may have wood-framed walls in the crawl space under the house.
