On the heels of the new recreational marijuana sales in the State, California has implemented new laws to prohibit driving under the influence of weed and prohibiting so-called “open-containers” of pot in a vehicle. SB 65 bans the use of marijuana while driving, and SB 94 prohibits driving with an “open container of cannabis or loose cannabis flower.” Marijuana advocates, such as NORML, support the laws, saying that edible cannabis can be especially dangerous to drivers, as its effects can be delayed by hours.
