The California Earthquake Authority is seeing significant growth in a grant program for old homes. CEA CEO Glenn Pomeroy says the Earthquake Brace and Bolt Program covers most if not all of the costs for making homes safer.

The CEA is giving six-million-dollars in grants this year to encourage Californians to reinforce their homes. The program focuses on properties that were built before the 1940’s because their raised concrete foundations make them more susceptible to damage. Pomeroy says retrofitting homes also qualifies residents for discounts on earthquake insurance.
