Frank Masi – ©2016 CTMG/Sony Pictures Entertainment(LOS ANGELES) — Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is the new box office champ, knocking Star Wars: The Last Jedi out of first place with an estimated $36 million weekend. That brings its three-week total to $244 million stateside.
Welcome to the Jungle also has earned $275 million overseas, for a worldwide total of $519.4 million.
The week’s other newcomer, Insidious: The Last Key took second place, raking in an estimated $29.26 million. The fourth film in the Insidious franchise topped the $22.7 million debut of its predecessor and blew away the original Insidious. However, it fell way short of 2013’s Insidious 2, which earned over $40 million.
Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi dropped to third place with an estimated $23.6 million weekend. The latest chapter in the Star Wars series has now grossed around $572.5 domestically and $632.7 million overseas, for a worldwide total of more than $1.2 billion. Lucasfilm, like ABC is owned by Disney.
Grabbing third place was The Greatest Showman with an estimated $13.8 million, and Pitch Perfect 3 rounds out the top five with an estimated $10.2 million.
