Sonoma County Sheriff Steve Freitas Announces Early Retirement

Sonoma County Sheriff Steve Freitas will not finish his 2nd term.

In a written statement, Sheriff Freitas announced he is taking an early retirement effective August 1st due to medical issues and doctor’s recommendation. When reached for a statement, the Sheriff’s Office would not comment on the details of the Sheriff’s Medical Issues.

Sheriff Freitas has recommended that Assistant Sheriff Rob Giardano take over when he steps down. Giardano’s confirmation would have to be confirmed by the board of supervisors. Assistant Sheriff Giardano has made it clear he is not running for sheriff in the upcoming election.

Sheriff Freitas also thanked those who supported himself and the Sheriff’s office over the years.
