The Golden Gate Bridge will be getting some repairs, replacements, and fresh paint to improve its looks.  The bridge district’s board of directors has approved repairs to the art deco facade on the bridge’s south tower where 80 years of exposure to fog, wind, and storms have taken a toll on the decorative steel plates.  Engineers say the Marin Headlands protect the north tower from the elements but the south tower has no such natural protection.  Work will begin sometime in the next year.
